An inclusive wall climbing event for students of Kaveri Gifted Education Centre where high performing students of 5th and 6th grade came together and participated in a wall climbing event alongside blind and visually impaired participants. Followed by a visit to The Farm.
The event was a great success and we got positive feedback from KGEC coordinators. We experimented with a new facilitation design where the PWD participants were more like mentors and 'older didis and bhaiyas' who supported the younger students with reflection exercises. They were appointed their own sub groups and got along with the students very well. They all found the wall climbing activity quite challenging, and were given two route options of varying difficulty. Manasvi also shared her experience of cycling from Manali to Khardung La with them. Going to the Farm after was a good idea, as we got time and space to do some activities. At the end of the day they went back with a new perspective on disability, and as many of them have a huge fear of failure, that was something that came up quite a few times. We were able to create a safe space to discuss failure, and overcoming challenges.
