GYC One day trek - Torna

Trek to Torna with Global Citizen Year students on a gap year from the USA.

Velhe
23 - 23 October 2016

Global Citizen Year is an Oakland-based non-profit that recruits and trains a diverse corps of American high school seniors to participate in an immersion-based international bridge year – often called a gap year – before starting college. The organization is founded on the idea that America’s next generation of leaders will require global citizenship to effectively address the problems of the 21st century.

We had participants from this organization as well as PwD students and they enjoyed the trek, in fact Torna was too easy for some of them. Activities were facilitated well and the sharings were rich. The students and the PwDs climbed even though it was sunny and had enough energy left over after the trek, which was a positive sign. There is a temple/covered area at the top (where we had our lunch), and a chance to water the trees and explore the fort.

The fort is about 50 km via Pabe ghat southwest of Pune in the Western Ghats of the Sahyadri mountain ranges at the base village Velhe. One can go from Pune via Satara road and take right at Nasarapur village. This distance is near about 65km. It is the highest fort in Pune district.
