The event consisted of an inclusive Blind Football Match, during which the able bodied participants and Blind Football Team from Bengal played two matches. Blind football is a version of the sport of football adapted for blind and partially sighted players. The football has ball bearings inside it, so that it makes a noise when it moves. All the players have their eyes taped so that their vision is completely blocked. There is a person designated to guiding the person shooting the ball toward the goal. There is a referee ensuring that everyone is following the rules. All other rules of the game are the same as regular football.
The inclusive football game was scheduled on a sunny Saturday morning from 8 AM to 11 AM. All the blind footballers arrived on the field by 8 AM. Participants were given bananas before the start of the event. Divyanshu Ganatra - founder of ABBF introduced the Blind Football Team and conducted a brief orientation and introductory session, along with the team from the association for Blind Football. The coach of the blind football team explained the rules of the game, and two teams were formed. Two games were played. The first one was an exhibition game by the blind players, and during the second game, the volunteers played against each other. The crowd was excited and cheering for the teams that were playing. After the game was
over, breakfast was served. The volunteers interacted with the blind footballers over breakfast. This was followed by a discussion about disability, accessibility and the reflections on the day.
The blind football team was awarded with certificates at the end of the event and had an opportunity to share about the sport and their achievements so far. The volunteers were very
enthusiastic and also shared how their perceptions of blindness changed by trying out the sport and playing blindfolded.
