The event consisted of an inclusive Blind Cricket Match, during which the able bodied participants and Blind Cricket Team from Blind People’s Association, Ahmedabad
played a match with mixed teams. Blind cricket is a version of the sport of cricket adapted for blind and partially sighted players. It has been governed by the World
Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) since 1996. The cricket ball has ball bearings inside it, so that it makes a noise when it moves. The wicket stumps are made of metal. All
other rules of the game are the same as regular cricket.
The inclusive cricket match was scheduled on a rainy Saturday morning from 7 AM to 10 AM. All the blind cricketers arrived on the field by 7 AM. Participants were given juice before the start of the event. Divyanshu Ganatra - founder of ABBF introduced the Blind Cricket Team and conducted a brief orientation and introductory session, along with the team from Blind Peoples Association, Ahmedabad. The coach of the blind cricket team explained the rules of the game, and two mixed teams were formed. A match of 5 overs each was played. The crowd was excited and cheering for the teams that were playing. After the game was over, breakfast was served. The MICA volunteers and Firefox riders interacted with the blind cricketers over
breakfast. This was followed by a discussion about disability, accessibility and the reflections on the day. The group stood in a circle and shared their feelings and thoughts about being a part of Gujarat’s first inclusive cricket match.
