Every year, Goa turns purple. The International Purple Fest is four days of sport, culture, art, assistive technology, and advocacy, hosted by the Government of Goa. Thousands of persons with disabilities, allies, organisations, and changemakers descend on the city.
This year, ABBF was there too. And we brought a run.
Goa's first inclusive run took place within the Purple Fest grounds, open to all participants and visitors at the festival. PwD runners paired with sighted guides. Wheelchair users rolling alongside walkers. The same format that has made ABBF's runs a movement was now at India's most important disability inclusion event. And it was a signal that inclusive sport belongs at every level of public life, not just in private events.
